Crimson crested woodpecker

The crimson-crested woodpecker (Campephilus melanoleucos) is a very large woodpecker which is a resident breeding bird from Panama south to northern border regions of Argentina, and on Trinidad.

The Crimson-crested Woodpecker is a bird species found in parts of South America, including Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, and Paraguay. It is a medium-sized woodpecker with distinctive plumage, featuring a bright red crest on its head, black and white striped wings, and a white underbelly.

These woodpeckers are typically found in forested areas, especially in humid and subtropical forests. They use their strong beaks to peck at trees in search of insects and other invertebrates, which make up the majority of their diet. They also use their beaks to create cavities in trees for nesting.

The Crimson-crested Woodpecker is known for its loud, ringing call, which is often heard echoing through the forest. They are also visually striking birds, and are sometimes kept as pets or used as symbols in South American folklore and art.
